and its 5:30am..

Okay, my sleeping schedule is completely out of sync.

Just yesterday, I went to bed at 5:30am, and now I'm waking up at 5:30am.. its pretty crazy. People are slowly getting ready for the trip out to Genoa, Italy and the shower order is set.

The night shower crew, consisting of Phuc, Jim and Dar started first. After a short nap for some of us, the morning crew have just started with Allison leading off. I think we set the pace at 20min a shower to get a 7am departure from the flat to make it the airport a littler after 8am.

For me, this is when my real holiday begins as I've taken a 2 week break from work! Although, the weekend was when the real fun started.

I think I'm getting the hang of the tour guide thing. After a few visits from past friends, I know what places to hit and restaurants to eat at.

We hit up my favourite restaurant yesterday, Shampan, in Brick Lane. It was well received and one of the key stops in the tour. =)

As I said in the past post, London Eye was probably one of the more memorable moments this past weekend. This is where Jim and Phuc joined us to make the group offically complete. We were lucky enough to get our own observation capsule and everyone was so high on caffeine! We took in the beautiful sights of London from up above while taking group pictures! It was very memorable taking it all in especially with Bri yelling in euphoria every 5 seconds as the caffeine took over his whole system! Some would say he was in a state of Euphoria, others could say he was in the brink of insanity!

The adventure continues as we head off to Cinque Terra today!

8 is not enough!

The group is complete! We are complete with all of 9 of us fitting in the flat and we are supposed to be up for Italy in 2 hours. We've had a hectic schedule trying to see all the sights.

I'll try and have more detail when we come back, but for now, I refer you to the link on the right for Bri's updates!

Highlight so far: London Eye with everyone!

Happy 2nd Birthday!

Dear Blog,

Happy Birthday. It's hard to believe you are already 2 years old! I appreciate all you've done for me and you've been so good in being such a good outlet in capturing some of my experiences so far since my move. I apologise if the last year I haven't been as good in keeping you up to date as much as I should. But to make it up to you I'll try to write as much as I can in the next few weeks to celebrate the 2 years since your inception.

Why? Well, most of my uni friends are going to be visiting! Somehow I'm going to try to fit 8 people in this tiny flat. Any time you get 9 friends together its bound to get pretty crazy. Especially if it involves traveling to other countries!

Anyway, the first stop is London. Unfortunately the weather doesn't look to good for the next few days. I guess that's typical!

I'll try my best to update the visit and our trips as much as I can. So stay tuned.

Happy 2nd Birthday!

Snog on Stage

I can honestly say that the two nights of impro performances land on my short list of memorable times so far in London.

I think I've finally found a groove with a nice circle of people to hang out with. We'll see how long it lasts.

As far as the Maestro format goes, I didn't finish as one of the top four, but to be fair, I had some really tough scenes.

Both nights I ended up with a scene where I had to only speak in "3 word" sentences! Its pretty hard to do, and the audience loves when you struggle. Its amazing what you can come up with that's for sure!

The best scene I took part in was when a fellow player decided to snog me on stage unexepectedly! Twice! It was hilarious!

In any case, after the second performance, we had a night out, celebrated with drinks, had some champagne, and ate some late night curry!

We have a good core group, so hopefully I'll see more of them in the next term!

Showtime!

My heart is beating really fast even though I don't go on stage with my fellow players until 2 hours from now. I haven't been "officially" on stage for ages.. not since the good ol' PSA Fashion Shows where I'd emcee and "improv" my lines as much as I will tonight. We'll see how this "maestro" format will fare. Apparently through crowd participation there will be one "impro" player standing. Will I get luck of the draw? Who knows. All I know is that the next week will be pretty crazy.. 2 shows, one last impro class, a bunch of leaving drinks, and one week from now, a whole mess of people trying to fit in my flat. Just going to take it one day at a time I guess.

So for today, I just have to get these butterflies out of my stomach!! ARGH!!

Hostel

In the next 3 weeks, I'm going to have 12 different people staying in my place at different times of the week. Unbelievable.

Oh Flat 14, I miss you so. You were so big and spacious, but we were not meant to be.. until now.

Hey Sox fan!

In hopes of curing the post visit hangover, my mate and I went to check out Gorgon Ramsay's new pub: The Narrow near our area. (Which by the way, is good for a drink, not so much for the food.)

Anyway, as we sat down, and I immediately heard a distinct American voice sitting next to us. As we continued to order and discussed my visit to Chicago, and the many activities that I took part in, I was suddenly interrupted!

"Sorry to be so rude, and I apologise for totally interrupting your dinner, but are you from Chicago?"

I thought to myself, no, she's not being rude at all! I embraced her courageous attempt to bond with another American!

"Yes. Yes I am."

"I thought so!"

Obviously she was totally eavesdropping, because as we continued on our brief conversation, she mentioned:

"I'm a Sox fan! I actually used to live about 4 blocks from Wrigley!"

She must have overheard my explanation that Wrigley Field was basically a big beer garden.

As she was leaving, we had the usual banter of Cubs vs. Sox. What would have typically been a rude interruption during dinner, was a nice pleasant surprise and made my night.

Post Visit Hangover

I hate this feeling. Its strange because its one of those emotional feelings where you feel it physically. Every time I come back from the States, I get some level of this "post visit hangover" and for some reason, the level is a bit higher than normal.

I can't explain the reason right now. I think its because it was so much fun when I was back. It was a crazy schedule trying to see everyone I could in such a short amount of time. So apologises if we didn’t get a chance to meet! For those that I did see, it was nice seeing and catching up again! My support system back home is so strong and my social circle is amazing.

I come back here, and it’s a bit tougher because even after almost 2 years, it’s been hard to establish anything close to that. Sure, I have friends back here, but it hardly compares to what I have back home. I know I’ve written this before, but it’s so true and it becomes evident every time I visit. I am truly blessed with the family and friends I have.

The reoccurring question that I got while I was back home was: “So when are you coming back?”

I don’t know the answer to this question, and my default answer was:

“Probably 2 more years.”

These post visit hangovers seem to make that timeline sooner than later.

I just have to get into “career mode” again which seems to solve these post visit blues.

But, all in all, it was so nice to hear all the good news that’s for sure. New home owners, a new marriage, new engagements, and new relationships – all life changing events among old friends, and it was so nice to hear everyone is doing well.
